Russia’s AZIMUT Hotels has announced the results of an open call for contemporary artists to participate in the “Room with a View” art residencies. The winning artists will bring their projects to life in the streets of three Russian cities.

The first art installations created by contemporary artists as part of the AZIMUT art residency program will appear in Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan and Arkhangelsk. More than 150 applications were submitted from artists across the country, representing a wide range of styles and approaches to street art.

The winners are:

  • Grisha Sharov, a street artist originally from Bratsk, Irkutsk Region. He is the curator of the “One for All” street art festival and co-founder of the “Scam” contemporary art fair. Grisha Sharov will create the first project in the “capital of sunsets,” Nizhny Novgorod, at the city’s main viewing platform, using the area in front of AZIMUT City Hotel Nizhny Novgorod.
  • Vladimir Abikh — an artist from Yekaterinburg who has participated in international and Russian biennials. His works are held in the collections of the State Russian Museum and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Abikh works with words, exploring the poetic potential of place and the phenomenon of time, while examining how linguistic and cultural phenomena function through concise and ironic forms. He will create his project in Astrakhan.
  • The creative duo of Gleb Smirnov and Alina Vodolazskaya from St. Petersburg — graduates of the A. L. Stieglitz Academy of Art and Design. Their portfolio includes projects for the drying tower of a silk factory in Naro-Fominsk, an art installation in Benois Garden in St. Petersburg and other projects. The artists will travel to Murmansk, where they will create a unique art installation for AZIMUT City Hotel Murmansk.
AZIMUT ART: Winners of the Open Call for the Art Residencies Announced

AZIMUT’s “Room with a View” art residencies are Russia’s first public art program dedicated to developing the cultural landscape of Russian cities, built around the extensive geographic reach of AZIMUT Hotels. The new project brings together art and hospitality, highlighting the unique identity of different regions across Russia. Artists will create a series of unique art installations, each serving as a symbol of the region’s traditions and values while reflecting its cultural identity. The project is planned to be expanded to all cities where the AZIMUT Hotels network is present.
